May 18, 2010 – MMA WORLDWIDE, CYPRESS, CA – The multi-media company today announced that ESPN radio host RJ Clifford will compete in the world class mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion, STRIKEFORCE, which takes place at the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles, California on Wednesday, June 16th. Clifford is the host of MMA Worldwide Live, which covers all facets of the MMA industry, on 710ESPN (call letters: KSPN AM). But when the cage door shuts, his gift for gab will be traded for a quick jab, fancy footwork and a strong wrestling pedigree. Clifford holds a professional record of 3-1, with STRIKEFORCE being the biggest opportunity of his fighting career. “I feel honored to compete in the same promotion that top fighters in the world call home,” said Clifford. “Southern California is my home and I hope to put on a great show against my opponent (Conor Heun) in June.” Clifford is Editor-in-Chief for both MMA Worldwide magazines (TapouT and MMA Worldwide), and hosts MMA Worldwide Live from 10:00PM to 11:00PM on Friday nights. In addition to ESPN710, the show is available via pod cast on www.espnlosangeles.com. MMA Worldwide Live can be heard in the Southern California counties of Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Ventura and San Diego, in addition to being streamed online worldwide. “This is great exposure for MMA Worldwide Live and we hope to tie in the radio show to several promotions leading up to the event,” said Clifford. “We also plan on covering the event live and will have several giveaways and surprises in store for our listeners.” STRIKEFORCE: Live will be headlined by middleweights Robbie Lawler and Renato “Babalu” Sobral, and will be shown live on Showtime. ABOUT MMA WORLDWIDE: MMA Worldwide (www.mmaworldwide.com) is the first MMA multi-media company with two nationally-distributed magazines (TapouT and MMA Worldwide), a TV series on HDNET, an interactive website and now a radio show. About STRIKEFORCE: STRIKEFORCE (www.strikeforce.com) is a world-class mixed martial arts cage fight promotion which, on Friday, March 10, 2006, made history with its "Shamrock vs. Gracie" event, the first sanctioned mixed martial arts fight card in California state history. The star-studded extravaganza, which pitted legendary champion Frank Shamrock against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Cesar Gracie at San Jose's HP Pavilion, played host to a sold-out, record crowd of 18,265. Since 1995, STRIKEFORCE, sanctioned by ISKA, has been the exclusive provider of martial arts programming for ESPN and, after 12 years of success as a leading, world championship kickboxing promotion, the company unveiled its mixed martial arts (MMA) series with "Shamrock vs. Gracie." In May 2008, West Coast Productions, the parent company of STRIKEFORCE, partnered with Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment (SVS&E), an entity created in 2000 to oversee all business operation aspects of the San Jose Sharks and HP Pavilion at San Jose. In March 2009, STRIKEFORCE signed a multi-year agreement with SHOWTIME® to stage live events on the premium cable television network. The promotion has since also produced two live, primetime events on the CBS Television Network. CONTACT: MMA WORLDWIDE Doug Francis (714) 226-0585 doug@mmaworldwide.com
